Offered for sale is a vintage chrome plated pocket watch made, more than 50 years ago, at the Smiths "Tick-Tock" factory at Ystradgynlais in South Wales. The watch is complete and working and is keeping good time. There is some very slight yellowing of the plastic crystal and a couple of minor dents in the case back but otherwise this manual winding watch is in excellent condition.
These watches were never intended to be quality timepieces -
rather they were mass produced as inexpensive watches for the working man (or
woman) and many thousands were turned out before the factory succumbed as a
result of competition from cheaper imported products in the 1970s.
Technical details:
Movement - Smiths standard pin lever pocket watch (small clock) movement, hand wound, no jewels, centre seconds.
Case - Three piece chromium plated pressed brass, snap-to bezel and back, 2 inches (50 mm) in diameter.
Face - White printed tinplate face featuring Arabic numerals with blued hands and a red centre seconds hand.
For many years, we traded in fountain pens,
watches and collectibles from our village post office and store in rural
Leicestershire. We retired from there more than 20 years ago and,
because it is unlikely that we shall ever have time to repair all of the
projects in our collection, we are disposing of the contents of our
extensive parts boxes together with the very many items that had been
waiting for attention or just don't fit within our collection. Please
look at our other items offered for sale via eBay.
If you wish to
buy multiple items from us to combine postage costs - please use the
eBay "Add to basket" function, then "check out" after selecting the
items you require.Please
be aware that we are only able to sell to buyers with a postal address
in the United Kingdom or in those overseas countries that are served by
the eBay Global Shipping Program (GSP) and we always follow eBay rules
and guidelines. Please do not ask us to do otherwise.
