IMPACT CUTLERY

Model # 8017 – Thornfield | By Impact Cutlery

Only one knife made.

The Thornfield is a premium handcrafted fixed-blade knife that combines the proven versatility of the classic Bowie pattern with practical features developed for modern outdoor use. Designed for collectors, campers, bushcrafters, and outdoor enthusiasts, it features a hand-forged Damascus steel blade, a striking blue resin handle, Damascus steel fittings, and a handcrafted leather sheath. Its commanding proportions and premium materials make it equally suited for display or demanding field use.

Design Inspiration

The Thornfield is inspired by the evolution of the classic American Bowie knife into the heavy-duty survival and expedition knives that became popular during the latter half of the twentieth century. While retaining the characteristic clip-point profile and substantial crossguard of the traditional Bowie, later outdoor knives incorporated practical features such as a sharpened top swedge for improved point geometry and a sawback spine for additional utility in wilderness environments. This combination preserves the strength and versatility of the historic Bowie while reflecting the practical innovations developed for modern outdoor and survival applications.

Handle

The handle is crafted from premium Blue Resin, displaying rich translucent swirls that make every knife visually distinctive. Its ergonomic contours provide a secure and comfortable grip, while the beautifully patterned Damascus Steel Guard and Pommel enhance balance, durability, and the knife's premium appearance. Full tang construction provides outstanding structural strength and long-term reliability.

Blade

The blade is hand forged from premium Damascus Steel, revealing the distinctive flowing layered pattern unique to every blade. Finished with a refined satin polish, the clip-point profile offers excellent control, slicing performance, and point strength. The sharpened top swedge enhances penetration and improves the blade's overall geometry, while the sawback spine adds practical functionality for outdoor and camp applications. Together, these features create a highly versatile fixed blade suitable for a wide range of outdoor tasks.

Sheath

The knife is supplied with a handcrafted genuine brown leather belt sheath featuring reinforced stitching and a secure snap-retention strap. Designed for dependable belt carry and safe storage, the sheath complements the knife's traditional styling while providing excellent protection during transport and outdoor use.

Please note: Lifetime warranty does not cover normal wear and tear.

Normal wear includes blemishes, tarnish, rust, scratches, blade chips, broken tips, edge dings, and dents. Impact knives are not designed to be used as hammers, chisels, pry bars, or screwdrivers. Damage caused by misuse or accidental impact is excluded, but may be repairable for a reasonable fee.

Natural materials—such as bone, horn, or wood—may crack, shrink, or develop other changes over time due to temperature, climate, and age; these are not covered under the lifetime warranty. No knife maker can guarantee against the natural aging of organic materials.

Rust is not covered under the Impact lifetime warranty. Proper care and maintenance are essential.

Care of Your Fine Custom Knife
  1. Never store the knife in a leather sheath.
  2. Never leave the knife wet.
  3. Apply oil/wax after use and before storing.
  4. If rust appears, use 0000 steel wool with oil to clean it off; metal polish can also be used.
  5. Never put the knife in a dishwasher.
  6. Keep the guard, bolsters, and butt caps oiled/waxed.
  7. Keep it sharp — a sharp knife is safer than a dull knife.

  9. Don’t try to repair a damaged knife yourself. Send it to us and we’ll do our best to make it as good as new.

If you plan heavy-duty use, let us know when ordering a custom knife so we can shape the blade and bevel accordingly. Knives in auctions are not subject to alterations; suggestions can be made for fixed-price listings.
