1863 Silk Theatre Playbill Ticket Of Leave Man & The Detective, Exeter, UK RARE

1863 Silk Theatre Playbill for "Ticket of Leave Man" and "The Detective" and "Light Troop of St. James", at Theatre Royal, Exeter, UK, under the Management of Mr Belton.

An exceptional and scarce Victorian silk theatre playbill, dated 4 November 1863, for a performance at the Theatre Royal, Exeter, managed by Mr Belton. The playbill advertises the celebrated melodrama The Ticket-of-Leave Man, together with The Detective and Light Troop of St James, and records that the performance took place in the presence of Major Wm Barnes Esq, adding important civic and historical context.

Printed on silk rather than paper, this is a large-format example measuring approximately 500mm × 300mm, and survives in excellent condition, remarkable for a piece over 160 years old. Silk theatre playbills from the early Victorian period are scarce, and examples of this size and preservation are seldom encountered.

The Ticket-of-Leave Man was one of the most influential and popular melodramas of the 19th century, and contemporary provincial performances such as this are highly sought after by collectors of Victorian theatre, crime melodrama, and historical ephemera.

A superb and genuine piece of 19th-century British theatre history, suitable for advanced collectors, institutions, or framed display.
