Theatre Program Cavalleria Rusticana, July 15th, 1893
Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945) was a distinguished Italian composer, famous for his 1890 operatic masterpiece "Cavalleria Rusticana". In 1893 the British premiere of Mascagni's opera "I Rantzau" was held in London. It's success earnt him an invite to Windsor Castle to play for Queen Victoria. The concert was held on July 15, 1893 with singers from the Harris Royal Opera Company, including Calve, Vignas, Ancona, Joran and Biancoli and Mascagni conducting.
This program from Mascagni's Windsor Castle performance is signed by the conductor on the inside page. This rare program is 20cm x 13.5cm, 48 pages and is complete. The outer cover has separated at spine and is attached with small piece of tape. All pages inside are, for the most part in good and clean condition, there is small spine tears with couple of pages.
This piece was originally collected from a major Australian opera collector in the 1930s and rarely offered for private sale. A unique offering for collectors of historic operatic and theatre memorabilia.
