The Artist
Michael Kachan (Krelman) was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1964. He graduated with honors from the Kiev Institute of Arts in 1985. Before immigrating to Israel in 1992, he represented the Ukrainian Painters League in group exhibitions throughout the former Soviet Union and abroad, and created monumental installations for various institutions. His work is characterized by vibrant colors, rich textures, and joyful scenes featuring musicians, lovers, and dreamers. Influenced by Marc Chagall and the Bolivian naïve artist Rodo Graciela Boulanger, he works mainly with acrylic on canvas, using layered pigments and sculpted textures. He also creates original serigraphs and hand-embellished works on canvas. In recent years, Kachan has developed a distinctive landscape style using a palette knife and spatula, combining pixel-like strokes, shades of gray, and bright islands of color to depict the streets and valleys of Israel in a unique and universal way. He has participated in exhibitions and projects in Israel and internationally, and his works have been sold in auctions worldwide. A partial list of his accomplishments includes: • 1995 – Art Expo, New York • 2001-2003 – Marquis Gallery, Toronto, Canada • 2010 – Art Fair, Dublin, Ireland • 2016-2017 – Solo exhibitions in Tel Aviv, Israel • 1991-Present – Presenting paintings and sculptures in “Tzfat” Gallery, “David Marco Art Gallery,” “Younes Art Gallery,” and “Park West Gallery”
