This delightful pre/mid-war piece introduces the Northwest Airlines stewardess (“each one is a registered nurse”) and, in a series of charming coral-and-navy Art Deco cartoon panels, walks the new air traveler through onboard life: “So You’ll Sit Tight,” “Weather to Order,” “Take a Walk,” “Shoot the Works,” “Light Up… Or Chew!”, “Inside Plumbing,” “Should I T-I-P?” (decidedly not!), “For the Younger Set,” and more, aboard Northwest’s big Douglas ships. Signed in facsimile by the President of Northwest Airlines, St. Paul Municipal Airport, St. Paul, Minnesota. The included mailing envelope is postally used, addressed to a recipient in Stoughton, Wisconsin, and bears a WWII-era postage meter (dated 1943) alongside a patriotic “Uncle Sam Needs Pilots — Be a U.S. Army Flying Cadet” slogan cancel — a great bit of homefront postal history. A wonderful crossover item for airline collectors, aviation and WWII homefront historians, stewardess-history collectors, mid-century graphic-design fans, and postal-history enthusiasts.
