Classic
example of an Art Nouveau or Jugendstil glass and Silver Plated vase from the
late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1890–1910).
Key
Design Elements
- The
Metal Framework: The vase sits within an intricate, organically structured
metal frame made silver-plated white metal. The long, sweeping metal arms
display classic whiplash curves and stylized Oriental Fans at the top.
- The
Glass Body: The central vessel is made of opaque white opaline or milk
glass. It features a distinct blue glass trim running along the bottom rim
where the sleeve meets the base, providing a sharp pop of accent color.
- The
Central Imagery: The center of the glass features a detailed grisaille or
sepia-toned portrait depicting a courting couple dressed in late
18th-century (Rococo period) attire. This nod to historical romance was a
popular decorative theme for household accent pieces during the Belle
Époque era.
- Maker:
The Stand is marked on the Base 2540 Mf’d & Plated by Reed & Barton.
