Sony TC-900S Sony-O-Matic Portable Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder – Working – Rare
Offered here is an exceptionally well-preserved Sony TC-900S Sony-O-Matic, one of Sony's earliest portable transistorised reel-to-reel tape recorders, manufactured in Japan during the mid-1960s.
Unlike the vast majority of surviving examples, this recorder is fully working, retains its original Sony-O-Matic branding, original reels, folding stand, and protective lid, and remains in remarkably attractive cosmetic condition.
The TC-900S occupies an important place in Sony's history. During the 1960s, Sony established its worldwide reputation for compact, reliable consumer electronics, and the Sony-O-Matic series was among the products that introduced affordable portable recording to homes, journalists, students and businesses around the world.
Today these machines are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially complete, original and operational.
Why This Example Is Special
Collectors often spend years searching for an example like this.
Most surviving TC-900S recorders suffer from one or more of the following:
- Missing reels
- Missing lid
- Damaged carrying stand
- Corrosion
- Heavy cosmetic wear
- Non-working transport
- Poor storage damage
This recorder avoids nearly all of those common issues.
It presents beautifully and remains fully functional, making it equally suitable for display or regular use.
Finding a working, complete, and well-preserved TC-900S has become genuinely uncommon.
