Maartje Offers – Signed magazine Portrait Photograph, Dramatic Contralto of La Scala, Milan, Part Mounted to album leaf with Evelyn Scotney on verso
A printed‑portrait of Maartje Offers (1891–1944), the noted Dutch dramatic contralto whose career included major appearances at La Scala, Milan, and leading opera houses across the Continent. Beneath the image is the printed caption: “The Famous Dramatic Contralto from La Scala, Milan, and principal Opera Houses on the Continent.”
Across the lower portion of the photograph Offers has added her genuine autograph, — a clear diagonal signature typical of her mid‑career publicity material. Autographed portraits of Offers are sought after due to her relatively early death and the limited quantity of surviving signed images.
This portrait was mounted to an album leaf - part still attached on rear; the reverse shows Evelyn Scotney, the Australian coloratura soprano of the Metropolitan Opera and Boston Opera Company. The Scotney is not signed.
A desirable signed Maartje Offers portrait — ideal for collectors of early 20th‑century opera ephemera.
