This is a 1960s faceted Murano glass Sommerso bowl/ashtray, designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso.
This Mid-Century Modern Italian art glass piece features a geometric, diamond-cut outer clear layer enclosing a rich cobalt blue inner glass core with a characteristic rippled base.
Key Characteristics
- Designer / Studio: Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte (similar faceted geometric styles were also produced by Luigi Mandruzzato).
- Technique: Sommerso (Italian for "submerged"), where multiple contrasting layers of coloured glass are layered over one another without mixing.
- Era: 1960s Mid-Century Modern.
- Function: Originally intended as a luxury ashtray, today it is widely collected as a decorative catch-all bowl or centerpiece art object.
It measures approx. 13cm wide x 6cm high
