About this print,
Kyokarakami is a traditional decorative paper that has been produced in Kyoto since the Imperial Court era. It is printed using woodblocks and natural pigments. Its origins lie in “Karakami,” a decorative paper introduced from China’s Tang Dynasty during the Imperial Court era. It flourished during the Edo period, when it was used for wallpaper, among other things, but by the modern era, only one workshop remained that carried on the tradition.
Although this cover bears a printed official title page, it is not held in any other collection, and the circumstances of its publication remain unknown.
