As these vintage Mercedes diesels age, the seller has increasingly noticed more and more broken bowden cable ends and has developed a solution, since complete bowden cables have not been available from Mercedes for some time now.  Also, removing the entire bowden cable and re-installing it is a labor intensive job.  

Seller has engineered these out of a substantially stronger, durable plastic than the original material and is designed to withstand both vibration and the constant heat cycles around the engine bay.  

These two pieces are much easier/faster to install than removing the entire cable from the transmission.  Installation is relatively simple  with the only special tool needed is an electric terminal crimper capable of making a strong crimp (you won't be able to make a strong enough crimp with a regular pair of pliers). You (or your mechanic) will be required to cut the wound stainless steel cable towards the very end (cut at the very end of the cable, leaving only about 1 cm of the stainless steel cable end exposed, then slide the repair pieces on (as well as any other components or small fittings such as the original rubber boot (not supplied), and then crimp the cable back together.  In the second photo, I show an example of the kit installed and the crimp made.  In this photo, I have removed the rubber boot to show the crimp, but I would suggest making the crimp as close to the cable end as possible, while still allowing you to crimp, and maybe a small amount of margin of error.  Making the crimp here will allow the cable to function smoothly and any small additional length from the crimp on fitting can be easily adjusted out.   Buyer should verify the crimp is strong before re-installing the rubber boot and returning the cable back into service.  Alternatively, the cable end can also be soldered back on if the buyer has the skill to do so.
