Offered for sale is a crisp, vintage 1950s Swiss Lucien Piccard 'Disco Volante' Ultra Thin Stainless Steel manual wind watch for restoration or for parts. This is one of a number of vintage watches that were part of a retired watch technicians inventory of watches and watch parts, acquired a number of years ago, that I have begun listing here on eBay.
Mechanically, this watch is not currently in proper running condition, in that the crown is not able to be wound (it does set the hands correctly) - some level of servicing/repair will be necessary to return this watch to proper time keeping condition. (I normally include photos of the movement in mechanical watch listings, but this is a top loading watch that requires removal of the crystal and crown in order to access the movement, and I'm not a trained watch technician and would likely do more harm than good if I were to try to undertake those actions. It's almost certainly a Peseaux movement, based on the era of production and thinness of the case, but I can't be sure.)
Cosmetically, the ultra thin 34mm diameter stainless steel case is in really excellent overall condition - while there are signs of light normal wear in the form of some small scratches and marks on the case, the case has retained truly sharp lines and edges throughout, as well as the factory radial brush pattern on the flat area of the case top, between the bezel and the sloped, polished outer ring of the case. The case back is in similar stellar condition with only a couple of faint scratches marring the original radial graining and deep, crisp factory stamping (please review the photographs for the best representation of the watch's physical condition.) The original silver dial with applied silver hour markers is in gorgeous condition, as are the original hands, the lume in which has tanned over time and matches the lume pips on the dial. The crystal is quite clear and is without cracks or fissures; the signed Lucien Piccard crown is in similar crisp condition as the case.
The watch is mounted on the same scarlet and gray Corfam band on which it was found, and will fit a wrist of up to approximately 7 1/2" in size in this configuration (the Corfam material has dried out over time, and is showing signs of becoming a bit brittle and flaking, so I'm not sure how much wearable life it has left in it.)
This is a really lovely example of exactly the type of watch design that Lucien Piccard became famous for during the mid-20th Century, and is more than deserving of being restored and proudly worn again.
Please review all of the photographs, as they comprise the most important part of the item description. If you have any questions about the item, please ask before bidding; there are no returns on this lot (unless it's not as described in some way.)
