Up for sale is a wonderful, early 20th-century postcard capturing everyday life in Ponta Delgada, located on the island of São Miguel (St. Michael's) in the Azores.
I just love the details in this old halftone print. The scene shows the "Praça da República" (Republic Square), which has long been the historic and social heart of the city. If you look closely, you can see some amazing early motorcars parked on the cobblestones, locals gathering in the shade of those huge trees, and even a great old sign for "American Banks" tucked into the classic Portuguese architecture on the right side of the street. It perfectly captures a beautiful city transitioning into the modern era.
