Unusual fossil curiosity display featuring a labeled Didelphis virginiana (Virginia opossum) jaw fragment marked “Pleistocene, Marion Co., FL.” The jaw specimen is presented with an original collection label identifying it as Didelphis virginiana (Virginia opossum) from the Pleistocene of Marion County, Florida, but the oversized curved fang/canine has been added later and is not anatomically original to the animal. This was likely created as a novelty “saber-tooth opossum” conversation piece or cabinet-of-curiosities display.
