Antique Mignonette Doll - Marked M 5

A charming small antique mignonette (pocket doll), marked "M 5" to the back of the head, dressed as a little girl in traditional regional/provincial costume. Mignonettes of this type were made in France and in Germany for the French market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
DESCRIPTION
Bisque/porcelain socket head marked "M 5", with fixed glass eyes, delicately painted brows and lashes, open mouth, and a mohair wig. The composition body and limbs are jointed, with moulded painted boots. She wears her charming costume: a checked dress, an apron, a fichu/shawl, and a straw bonnet trimmed with black ribbon.

M5 incised to the back of the head (size/mould mark)These dolls were made for both play and as collectibles, prized for their fine craftsmanship and charming presentation. UNIS France was active from 1916–1960, and their mignonettes are especially sought after by collectors for their quality and historical value.
