This massive quarto set contains 320 beautiful full-page plates reproduced from the author's precise drawings. It covers the entire spectrum of early American hand-forged ironwork, including hinges (butterfly, strap, and snake-head), latches, locks, foot-scrapers, shutter fasteners, andons, and kitchen hearth primitives from New England, Pennsylvania, and the South. An indispensable tool for the blacksmith, architectural historian, or antique tool collector.

The green cloth is clean with only minor shelf wear, and the gilt spine titles remain bright and crisp. This set originates from the William H. Hall Free Library in RI; it features neat white catalog numbers to the lower spines, pencil notations on the copyright pages, and a clean perforation (blind stamp) to the bottom of the title pages. The interior pages and plates are crisp, bright, and completely free of traditional library pocket glue or ink stamps. A very presentable work and reference copy of a rare and heavy set with clean pages throughout.
