Greek Bronze Verdigris Sculpture Of Colossus Of Rhodes, Vintage Figurine, 1970s

Description

A unique bronze verdigris sculpture of Greek Mythological hero Theseus holding the rock. Depicted as a powerful, athletic nude male in classical style, the figure dramatically raises a massive boulder high with his right arm , while his left hand rests on his hip in a confident and heroic pose.

The sculpture beautifully portrays the young Theseus proving his strength and royal heritage by lifting the enormous rock under which his father, King Aegeus, had hidden the sword and sandals as tokens of his identity.

The finish of the sculpture is a rich, dark finish with attractive natural verdigris highlights. It has a beautiful aged patina that enhances the antique character and depth of the piece.

It makes a powerful statement piece for collectors of Hellenistic / Greek classical bronze figures. It would make an impressive addition to a library, study, living room mantel or home gallery.
