A GORGEOUS 1913 1st WATERMARK ACSC LISTED SHADE SET OF THE 2½d ‘INDIGO’ KANGAROO: INDIGO-LIGHTBLUE-DEEPBRIGHTBLUE - TOTAL CV $680! (DEEPBRIGHTBLUE in PAIR)
The 1st Watermark 2½d Indigo Kangaroo was printed from two Plates (Plate 1 - Upper & Plate 2 - Lower) each with 120-on, in two Panes of 60 Stamps each in 10 horizontal rows of 6 stamps. They were printed by J.B. COOKE and issued on 27 January 1913 (in Sydney). Initial supplies were issued to Post Offices in sheets of 120. These marsupials were used as the letter rate to foreign countries. There were two printings totalling 2,640,000 stamps. Three distinct shades have been defined by THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS" (ACSC 2025) as:
ACSC 9A: INDIGO
ACSC 9B: LIGHT BLUISH-INDIGO
ACSC 9C: DEEP BRIGHT BLUE
These are very nice examples of the three shades identified for the 1913 1st Watermark series of 2½d Kangaroos. A lovely shade set with all the work done for you. The combined 2025CV for these is $680 with the deepbrightblue listing at $300 x 2. VERY SCARCE SET.
