Very good  vintage condition.  Minimal fine surface scratches, and some very fine chipping on the side edges that are not covered by the prongs (see pics).

The actual surface of the portrait is in excellent condition with very little signs of scratches, marks or other wear.  Portrait is comprised of several layers of richly-pigmented polychrome enamels and foil, painted and glazed over a sheet of copper.

The profile of a beautiful lady is perfectly enhanced by the cobalt blue background.  Look closely, and you will see the dimensions of the portrait.  Portrait is secured by fancy crown prongs to a gold-filled oval pendant framed in a crimped, pie crust motif.

Pendant is stamped on the underside--within the inner frame border--with purity marks for 12K gold filled and the maker's mark SAMMARTINO BROS, a Providence, Rhode Island jeweler that produced fine jewelry from the Late Victorian era through the early 1900's. Portrait itself is signed C. FAURE LIMOGES.

NOTE:  Portrait was never an exact fit on the gold-filled frame, as evident from the photos from each side (the side prongs do not reach over the sides of the portrait).  It is, nonetheless, quite secure.   However, the exposure of the portrait on each side has lead to chipping on the extreme edges.  You might wish to consider re-mounting the portrait to avoid damage to the precious enamel work or enjoy it purely as a display item. Can be worn as a necklace using the hidden hinge bale.

An exquisite and rare work of art from the famed French enamel artist Camille Faure, produced before he left Limoges and went on to independently produce abstract enamel vases and paintings as part of the early French Art Deco movement.
