This striking 17-inch (44 cm) French fashion lady is attributed to the Claude Blampoix firm of Paris, one of the most esteemed names in mid-19th-century French doll production.

About the Blampoix Firm

Claude Blampoix was one of the pillars of mid-19th-century Parisian doll manufacturing.  Blampoix firm produced quality kid-leather-bodied fashion poupées and was held in such high regard that Blampoix served as an official estate appraiser for other major doll firms including Barrois and Laporte. The firm used the incised initials B.S. (Blampoix Senr.) on marked examples, though many pieces left the atelier without marks — as is the case here.

Head & shoulderplate: Excellent pressed bisque; lovely youthful colouring; paint visible on reverse of plate; no chips or cracks

Eyes: Fixed cobalt enamel eyes in good condition; clear and deep

Bisque arms: Perfect — no damage whatsoever

Leather body: Good antique condition with age staining and normal wear

Left lower leg:Small period patch repairs are present to this area — typical antique repairs, structurally stable; these are clearly visible in the photographs

Mohair wig: Original; rare reddish-auburn colour; long curls intact and charming

Costume: Period-appropriate mauve striped walking costume with black lace trim, cream silk vest with pearl buttons, black lace hat — complete and charming
