Pair of Original Victorian Watercolour Landscape Paintings c.1882

A beautiful pair of original antique Victorian watercolour landscape paintings on card/paper, depicting traditional British countryside and river scenes.

These paintings were acquired together and remain as a matching pair. Included with the sale is a 2008 Christie’s South Kensington correspondence letter relating to the artworks.

The paintings are unsigned to the front but feature pencil inscriptions to the reverse, including what appears to reference “July 1882”. The subject matter, style and age are consistent with late Victorian landscape watercolours.

The larger painting depicts a tranquil river scene with distant hills and mature trees, while the smaller painting shows a rural landscape with trees and fencing. Both display attractive period colour and character.
