Le Verre Artistique di Lauro & Nicolas Gillen

A very rare French art deco pendant light in nickel plated solid brass or bronze and clear frosted molded-pressed glass. It was made between 1927 and 1929 by Louis di Lauro. The mounting was made by Nicolas Gillen a producer of high-quality lighting in art deco style during the interbellum. With a workshop and store in Paris (9 rue Saint-Ambroise).

Louis di Lauro created his company Le Verre Artistique in 1927. With his workshop in Courbevoie and a store  on 29 boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. In 1929 he changed the name from Le Verre Artistique di Lauro s.a. into établissements di Lauro et cie. The company was liquidated in 1932. The lamp shades designed and produced by Louis di Lauro are extremely rare being a small company that existed only 5 years. However di Lauro had some large orders, for instance he made the lighting for the oceanliner s.s. Paris of the French shipping company Compagny Générale Transatlantique.

The chandelier is in very good condition. The shade has some air bubbles, some of them are open. The glass bowl is frosted on both the inside and outside.  On the inside the frosting is a bit uneven with some patchy spots. The pendant has a total hight of 54 cm and the hexagonal shade is 47,5 cm wide. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mounting. The fixture is rewired and comes with a US standard socket. For European countries I will place a E27 one.
