This handsome, First Edition book provides a comprehensive history of the 124th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. Organized in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1862, the unit left the state for Washington and participated in the defense of Washington before being called to the field as part of the Maryland Campaign. It fought at the Battle of Antietam, conducted a reconnaissance up the Shenandoah Valley, camped at Maryland Heights, Loudon Heights, and near Harper’s Ferry before marching to Fredericksburg and then Fairfax Station. The unit participated in Burnside’s 2nd Campaign, and “Mud March”. It camped at Stafford Court House and participated in the Chancellorsville Campaign and Battle before being ordered to Harrisburg where it was mustered out of service in May 1863.

This original, 119-year old, First Edition book is in exceptional condition and comes protected in a clear, Mylar dust jacket. (Mylar jacket shown in photo #3.) The book is handsomely bound in royal blue covers with bright, impressed, gold lettering on the spine and with black lettering on a white star on the cover. The book is sharp, bright and clean. It has solid binding throughout; both hinges and all binding are solid. The exterior has no bumping, rubbing or discernible edge wear. The lettering and image are bright and sharp. The interior is clean and the pages are in great shape. There isn’t a mark in the book; it has no smudging, writing, foxing, pasteboards, stamps or other markings. It is not an ex-library book. The end pages have a blue, floral design printed on them. The book contains a frontispiece photography of the unit’s memorial at Antietam and the book is loaded with illustrations and portraits of members of the unit. Richly illustrated throughout; numerous portrait photographs of unit members, most in uniform. Unit roster organized by company. 306 pages.
