The inverted inscription on the torn ship's flag reinforces the mystical atmosphere of the open sea and recalls the horrors of the pirate era.

The reverse of those coin shows the effigy of King Charles III atop a scaled background and surrounded by the inscriptions "20 DOLLARS," "COOK ISLANDS, "CHARLES III."
