​Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this instrument comes from a legendary family of makers famous for their high-quality traditional woodwinds.

​Maker Stamp: Clearly marked "STARCK / BARNES & BLAKE / LONDON" on the body.
​Material: Crafted from genuine, dense black tone wood (solid African Blackwood or Ebony) with brass/German silver keys and reinforcement rings. This is not a Bakelite or ebonite reproduction—the organic wood grain and original lathe turning marks are beautifully visible.
​Key System: 5-key simple system, ideal for traditional Irish, folk, or military marching band music.
​Mechanics: Excellent mechanical action. All 5 original flat leaf springs are fully intact, strong, and snap back beautifully with no seizing.
​Joints: The main tenon joint is structurally sound and traditionally wrapped in red thread for a snug fit.

Because of its age, the pads under the keys are dried out and will need to be replaced by a woodwind technician to make the instrument fully airtight and playable.
