HARRY G. AITKEN (New Jersey, 1867-1952) Harry G. Aitken was born in Trenton, New Jersey on July 12, 1867. After high school he spent 5 years learning
pottery art under Walter S. Lenox, and eventually worked 44 years as a designer/decorator
for the Onondaga Pottery Company (now Syracuse China) in NY, until his retirement
in 1946. His numerous designs were well
received - particularly his "Nature Study Series" - and some are
still produced today. Outside of work, Aitken
continued his artistic skills exhibiting his oil/watercolors at the Syracuse
Museum of Art, he also entered work in shows in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston.
After a short illness, he died at his home in Syracuse on June 7, 1952. His beautiful pieces have good resale/collector's value and have become quite collectible in recent years.
