Vintage Heavyweight Mexican Falsa Blanket – Handloomed Wool Blend – Estate Find

This appears to be an authentic, mid-century heavyweight "Falsa" style blanket/rug, recently acquired from the estate of a world traveler and long-time Alaska resident. Unlike modern, lightweight souvenir blankets, this piece weighs over 5 lbs, offering the substantial feel and warmth required for rugged climates.  It features a traditional "weft-faced" flat weave with intricate "extra-weft" geometric diamond and "X" motifs.  It appears to have been woven from a heavy, recycled fiber blend (wool/cotton/acrylic). The yarn features charming multi-colored "neps" (flecks of blue, red, and orange), a hallmark of vintage recycled spinning techniques.  It is a timeless combination of cream, charcoal, and deep earth-tone browns, perfect for Southwestern, Boho, or Mid-Century Modern interiors.  There are no labels or stamps on this piece.  It is estimated to be from the 1960's to 1970's.  It measures about 56 inches wide by about 78 inches long and weighs over 5 pounds.

Condition:  Preowned, good condition, signs of age-related wear including some fraying to the hand-knotted fringe and natural "slubs" in the yarn.  All is intact except for the fraying on the top and bottom ends.  It has a cotton/wool scent.  See photos for more details.
