Authentic antique thermoplastic Union case identified as Littlefield, Parsons & Co. “Meditating Monk” Plate No. 16, a pattern attributed roughly to the 1857–1866 period. The case retains its original interior with gilt brass mat, velvet pad, and housed photographic portrait believed to be an ambrotype of a young Victorian-era gentleman, likely dating to the mid-1800s / Civil War period based on clothing and presentation.
The seated male subject wears a dark coat with patterned neckwear or cravat consistent with styles seen in the late 1850s to 1860s. No identification of the sitter is known.
Case shows age and edge loss/chipping along one side but remains displayable with strong molded detail to exterior. The photograph has not been removed from the case, preserving originality and reducing risk of damage.
