For your consideration is the Educational Card Game OUR UNION published in 1896 by the FIRESIDE GAME CO. (# 1109). The game is complete with all 52 cards (4 cards each in 13 suits, A-M) and a 3-sided Directions for Playing booklet that is pasted down inside the box cover. The cards measure 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches. This is deck #2 in a blue and gold box. Deck #1 is in a blue and silver box.
In addition to the maps of the 45 States of the Union at that time (Utah was admitted on January 4, 1896), the deck includes maps of the following:
- District of Columbia (C-3)
- Washington City (C-4)
- Oklahoma Territory (J-1)
- Indian Territory (J-2)
- New Mexico Territory (K-4)
- Alaska (L-1)
- Arizona (M-4)
For about five decades I have been collecting the educational games produced by The Fireside Game Company of Cincinnati, Ohio their successor company, The Cincinnati Game Company, their parent company The United States Playing Card Company, and the re-issues of the games by Parker Brothers. I have amassed a near complete set of these games (including some of the rarest) and, over the coming weeks, will be selling the entire collection, starting with the earliest.
CONDITION: Complete with 52 cards and Directions booklet, all of which are in very good condition: gently rubbed and lightly soiled. . The 3-page Directions for Playing booklet is pasted down inside the box cover; there is a corner crease on the first two pages; the third page, which is pasted down, is gently age-toned.
