Item Description

Title: Antique Continental/Swiss Key-Wind Cylinder Escapement Pocket Watch – 38mm Ornate Case (Inventory: TM2290)

Item Overview:

Up for sale is a beautiful late 19th-century (circa 1870–1890) Continental European mechanical pocket watch featuring a classic Lepine Caliber IV style layout and a traditional cylinder escapement. Measuring approximately 38mm in diameter, this smaller-profile timepiece was likely originally designed as a ladies' or youth's pocket watch. It is an excellent forensic piece for collectors of antique horology, restoration enthusiasts, or those who appreciate Victorian-era craftsmanship.

Movement & Technical Details:

Caliber: Lepine Caliber IV layout with distinctive parallel bar bridges.

Escapement: Cylinder escapement (Echappement a Cylindre).

Winding/Setting: Traditional key-wind and key-set via square arbors on the back of the movement (key is not included).

Size: Case diameter is approximately 37.5mm – 38mm (excluding the stem and bow).

Dial & Case Aesthetics:

Dial: Fired-glass white enameled dial featuring bold Roman numeral hour markers and a classic outer minute track. Features elegant, ornate Louis XVI style stamped hands.

Case Back: Highly detailed machine-turned guilloché geometric pattern, framed by a beautifully chased floral and leaf wreath border. The center features an unengraved shield/cartouche ready for personalization.

Inner Cuvette: Hinged inner dust cover with dual winding/setting ports.

Condition Report:

Movement: Complete and structurally intact. Offered as-found/untested for timekeeping accuracy; may require cleaning, oiling, or professional overhaul.

Dial: The enamel dial shows a small chip/loss on the edge between the 2 and 3 o'clock positions (visible in photos), which does not affect the hands' movement.

Case: Shows normal, honest age-related surface wear and light tarnish appropriate for a 140+ year-old piece. Hinges are tight, and the back covers snap shut securely.

Please study the high-resolution photographs carefully to assess the cosmetic condition and dimensions of this piece.
