• Obverse: The traditional Mexican National Emblem depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus, devouring a rattlesnake. Encircling the top is the legend "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS".

• Reverse: The majestic Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan with the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rising in the background. The design is flanked by organ pipe cacti and a nopal cactus, topped by the radiant Phrygian "Liberty" cap, the Mexico City Mintmark (M°), the denomination, and the 1954 date.
