Custom-Bilt (later Custombilt) smoking pipes are highly distinctive, American-made tobacco pipes famously known for their rugged, "spot-carved" rustication.

Each piece was carved by hand, earning the brand's iconic slogan: "As Individual as a Thumbprint." Today, these chunky, oversized vintage pipes are highly sought after by collectors.

History and Eras Tracy Mincer Era (19341946): Founder Tracy Mincer created these pipes, originally favoring large, chunky bowls with random, aggressive gouges. Pipes from this period are traditionally stamped with a hyphen (Custom-Bilt).

Eugene J. Rich Inc. Era (1946Early 1950s): Mincer partnered with Eugene J. Rich, and the brand name officially changed to Custombilt (without the hyphen). The factory continued to turn out highly popular shapes like the Bullmoose and the Bulldog.

Later Owners: After Mincer faced financial troubles in the 1950s, the brand changed hands several times. It was produced by various companies, including Wally Frank (via the Weber factory in NJ) and Altadis.

Design & Characteristics Signature Rustication: Instead of smooth surfaces, the briar was heavily carved with deep grooves and perforations. Finding a completely smooth Custom-Bilt is very rare. Massive Shapes: When first released in the 1930s and 40s, Custom-Bilt bowls were considered massive compared to standard pipes of the era.

Variability: Because of the hand-carved nature of the pipes, no two share the exact same shape or rustication.

Pipe is used but in excellent condition. I could not get the lighter to work and am not 100% sure it came with pipe. You collectors would know.
