This listing is for a characterful item of Indian Historical Ethnological Collectable - A Large14" (35.5cm), Heavyweight (2.34kilos) Brass Figurine modelled on a Traditional Bengali Terracotta 'Dhokra Bankura' Horse. It is very stylised, having a long giraffish neck, short tail, wide jaws, projecting snout, and bulging eyes. It's body is ornately decorated with intricate floriate patterns, a saddle,  headband and collar.

The Dhokra horse which was originally crafted in Terracotta originated in the city of Bankura in the Western Bengal province of India. Dhokra horse sculptures originate from an ancient Indian metal casting tradition known as Dhokra Damar, which dates back over 4,000 years to the Harappan and Mohenjo-Daro civilizations. This art form, which uses the lost-wax casting technique (cire perdue), is rooted in the tribal traditions of Eastern and Central India, particularly in modern-day West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

This beautiful figurine which is in brilliant condition would make a most interesting item of home décor, being suited to both modern or more traditional home settings.
