MKV-90 ("Small-sized vertical compass") is an aircraft-type liquid magnetic compass designed to determine the course, as well as the roll and trim of a vessel (aircraft).
It features high card stability during vibrations and tilts up to \(90^{\circ }\)
thanks to its suspension on a horseshoe-shaped frame with a weight.
Main characteristics and features of the MKV-90: Design: A transparent spherical bowl filled with a special liquid, inside which there is a "floating" card (a disk with magnets) on a needle support. Stability: Thanks to a freely swinging frame with a counterweight, the card maintains a horizontal position, and the course thread - vertical, even with significant tilts. Indication: For visual assessment of roll and trim, two mutually perpendicular white lines (base lines) are applied to the body. Application: It was used in aviation (on airplanes, motorized hang gliders) as a reliable magnetic device.
