A rare item of US Civil War memorabilia.

Its in very good used condition with a presentation inscription to Francis Nichols 1855.

This is what my research has revealed.

Kuchler was a German-born silversmith that operated in New Orleans from 1852 to 1871.

During the period 1852-1853 he partnered with Adolf Himmel who was another German-born silversmith who operated in New Orleans.

From 1853 he, apparently, worked exclusively for Hyde & Goodrich, who were, quote; 'a premier 19th-century New Orleans jewelry, silver, and luxury goods firm (c. 1828–1861) known for high-quality, ornate coin silver '

Francis Redding Tillou Nicholls (Aug 20 1834-Jan 4 1912) was an American attorney,politician, judge and brigadier-general for the Confederates during the American Civil War. He was also the Governor of Louisian for two terms.

In 1855 he came of age, 21, and graduated from West Point.

The beaker is hand-raised (no seam to the body) in traditional form with just twp small dings and age-related light usage scratches.

This is a rare collector's item particularly for those in the South and/or from New Orleans.
