This authentic salt-glazed jug is finished in a warm, honey-brown ochre glaze with dark brown slip-trailed detailing. The body is decorated with three circular medallions featuring relief-molded classical busts, each encircled by a moralistic motto in raised lettering:
"Follow the straight line thou shalt see..."
"Curved is the line of beauty..."
"Straight is the line of duty..."
The base carries the impressed Doulton Lambeth "rosette" mark, a signature of quality and heritage. This is a substantial and tactile piece of English ceramic history, perfect for serious collectors of Doulton ware or as a distinguished decorative accent.
The jug is in fair antique condition and is sold with several historic repairs:
Repairs: There are visible historic repairs throughout , most notably where the handle has been reattached at both the top and bottom joints (see detail photos).
Surface: There is a visible repair to the inner rim near the handle and a small glaze chip/nibble to the spout.
Finish: The stoneware body shows light age-related surface wear and a few minor firing imperfections typical of the salt-glazing process.
Build: Despite the historic repairs, the jug is stable and remains a beautiful display piece.
Height: 16 cm
