Bright decorative tribal art from Ghana, Ashanti People, Gilded Brass Gold Powder Box. Lid is too tight to open but has something inside?
Mystery contents included. Probably mid-20th century, very attractive "Kuduo or Forowa" brass gold powder box, cylindrical in shape and typically engraved with geometric motifs. The conical lid, itself decorated which completes the tribal beauty of the vessel, eye catching, decorative and mysterious.
Known as a 'Kudou' or 'Forowa' - created for the storage of gold dust. Hand raised and formed from beaten sheet brass, the assembly joining neatly brass riveted.
The box takes the form of a raised naive circular hut, resting upon an integral inset foot section. The stepped and tapering cover neatly press mounts in position.
The surface is finished with chiseled decoration - the decoration incorporating stylised geometric motifs.
In generally good condition, a few dents as to be expected, please see pictures.
