Collector Highlights
Serial Number: This is ticket #01000, a premier milestone round number specimen issued for the Remsen Avenue Route.
Legendary Transit Keywords: This specific ticket is a keyword powerhouse for Brooklyn historians. It was valid for final rides on two major routes: Kings Highway-Saratoga (B. 7) toward Broadway only, and the 18th Ave.-Foster Ave. (B-8) route to East 15th St. only.
Maritime & Shore Connection: The ticket documents a vital link to the Brooklyn waterfront, explicitly noting it was issued on trips from Seaview Ave. only. Landmarks like Seaview Avenue carry significant weight for collectors of Canarsie and Jamaica Bay history.
Uncirculated Specimen: This ticket is unpunched and has never been separated from a conductor's pad, preserving its clean, factory-straight edges. It has been maintained for decades in archival condition.
Historical Context
The Remsen Avenue Route (B-17) served as a critical connector for the residential hubs of East Flatbush and Canarsie. Issued in 1939, this ticket captures the BMT system just one year before the historic 1940 city takeover. It serves as a primary source document for the era when the Brooklyn Bus Corporation provided essential links to major hubs like Broadway and the Canarsie shore at the close of the decade.
