BMT Brooklyn Manhattan Transit June 1, 1933 Richmond Hill Line Ticket #00002 Rare
UNPUNCHED - EXCELLENT CONDITION - BMT TRANSIT ARCHIVE
Extremely rare early-issue specimen; likely the first clean ticket removed from the original conductor's book.
This is an excellent, uncirculated "Special Ticket" from the B. & Q. T. Corp (Brooklyn and Queens Transit Corporation), a subsidiary of the BMT, issued on June 1, 1933.
Condition and Provenance
This item is part of a substantial, high-grade transit collection recently added to our store, featuring decades of curated New York City history. This ticket was recently removed from a long-term archival collector’s binder and remains crisp and unpunched.
As seen in the photos, the top edge shows the authentic, uneven perforation where it was hand-separated from the conductor’s original ticket book—a true mark of its original, uncirculated state.
Collector Highlights
Serial Number: This is ticket #00002, representing the second ticket in the book for the Richmond Hill Line on that Thursday morning in 1933.
Special Ticket: This specific ticket was a "Special Ticket" valid for one ride from Woodhaven Boulevard and Myrtle Ave. on the next Richmond Hill car toward Jamaica Ave. It notes it was issued on trips from Ridgewood only.
Uncirculated Specimen: This ticket was never issued to a passenger, as evidenced by the lack of conductor punches in the time/date grids. It has been preserved for nearly a century in archival condition.
Historical Context
The Richmond Hill Line was a major transit component of the BMT’s surface operations, linking the Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, and Jamaica sections of Queens. In 1933, these lines were the lifeblood of the developing "suburban" neighborhoods of the outer boroughs. This ticket documents the specific, localized transit rules of the era and represents the height of private transit operation in NYC before the 1940 unification.
