Item Description
This is a significant historical First Day Cover (FDC) issued by the Korea Stamp Club (Chosun Philatelic Club) shortly after the liberation of Korea. The cover features four Japanese definitive stamps from the wartime era, overprinted in black with Korean characters (조선우표 - Chosun Upyo) and new denominations in Chon.
Historical Note for Your Records
These are often referred to as the "Stephens Overprints" or early liberation provisionals. After the Japanese surrender in August 1945, there was a massive shortage of stamps. The U.S. Military Government authorized the overprinting of existing Japanese stamps to reflect the new Korean currency and identity. These First Day Covers were produced in limited quantities for collectors by the Korea Stamp Club and are highly sought after by specialists in Asian postal history.
