This species can grow up to 65 mm and is an orange color. They have obviously very large "antlers" used by the males for battle, the large mandibles sub-divide into smaller thorns and have a coiled appearance forming a heart-like shape females do not have them. Their shell is very strong in appearance. The adults have their hindlegs adorned with hard and pointed thorns and have double-pronged sickle-end claws that allow them to cling onto wooden barks of trees and feed off the internal sap present within the tree. They have small antennae composed of 2-3 segments only. The lengthier the antlers of the males, the more appealed the female will be.
We firmly support the sustainable tropical butterfly collections as long as they take care of the conservation of the rainforest where they fly and the development of responsible conscious trading. This allows us to support local ranching farms with ethically sourced material and help at the same time collectors and enthusiasts to contribute to understanding and treasuring those species.
