Phoebis argante, commonly known as the Apricot Sulphur or Argante Giant Sulphur, is a vibrant butterfly from the family Pieridae. With a wingspan ranging between 70–80 mm, it boasts bright yellow or orange wings, often bordered with black on the forewings. The underside is pale with subtle markings, providing camouflage when resting. This butterfly is distributed across tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of South and Central America, the Caribbean, and southern Florida. It prefers open habitats like gardens, fields, and forests. The genus name "Phoebis" is derived from Greek mythology, referencing "Phoebus," an epithet for the sun god Apollo, aligning with the butterfly's sun-like colour. The species name "argante" may allude to a mythological queen. A curious aspect of Phoebis argante is its impressive migration, traveling long distances in search of food and breeding grounds, similar to the more famous Monarch butterfly's journeys.
