Ornithoptera priamus urvillianus, commonly known as the Urvillianus or Torres Strait Swallowtail, is a subspecies of butterflies belonging to the Ornithoptera genus.
The Urvillianus is native to the Torres Strait Islands, which are situated between Northern Australia (specifically the tip of Queensland) and Papua New Guinea. It is also found in some nearby regions of Papua New Guinea.

The male Urvillianus is large and striking in appearance. It has a wingspan of about 12 to 14 centimetres (4.7 to 5.5 inches). The upper side of the wings is predominantly black, with striking iridescent blue or green bands and spots, especially on the hind wings.
The female is generally larger than the male, with a wingspan ranging from 13 to 16 centimetres (5.1 to 6.3 inches). The upper side of the wings is primarily brown with pale markings and bands. Unlike the male, the female lacks vibrant iridescence.

The Urvillianus butterfly is typically found in tropical rainforests and adjacent areas. It inhabits dense, lush forests and is often associated with primary or secondary growth.
The female butterfly lays eggs on the host plants, which are typically members of the genus Aristolochia.
The caterpillar is large, with distinctive colouration and patterns. It is primarily black with white, yellow, and red markings. It feeds voraciously on the leaves of its host plants.
The pupa is typically brown and is suspended by a silk thread. It undergoes metamorphosis inside the chrysalis.
Upon emerging from the chrysalis, the adult butterfly has fully formed wings and is ready to reproduce.
The Urvillianus butterfly, like many other butterflies, engages in a series of behaviours related to mating, feeding, and finding suitable egg-laying sites.
