The African green hawkmoth, Daphnis nerii, is a strikingly beautiful moth known for its vibrant appearance and wide distribution. Its wings mix green, pink, and white, forming intricate patterns that provide excellent camouflage among foliage. The forewings are olive green with bold white bands, while the hindwings are pink with a green border.
Native to Africa, Daphnis nerii has a broad range that extends to the Middle East, Southern Europe, and parts of Asia. This moth is particularly famous for its long migrations, sometimes travelling significant distances in search of suitable habitats.
Daphinis nerii, African green hawkmoth, bug art, insect specimen, taxidermy moth, entomology gift, ethically sourced, wall decor
The name Daphnis nerii is derived from Greek mythology, with "Daphnis" referring to a pastoral poet and "nerii" referring to the plant genus Nerium, which includes the oleander, a favoured larvae host plant.
A notable curiosity about this moth is its ability to mimic the appearance of leaves and flowers, providing an effective defence mechanism against predators.

We firmly support the sustainable tropical butterfly collections as long as they take care of the conservation of the rainforest where they fly and the development of responsible conscious trading.
This allows us to support local ranching farms with ethically sourced material and help at the same time collectors and enthusiasts to contribute to understanding and treasuring those species.

Please take into consideration that the specimen that you will receive may slightly differ in size, shape or colour from the picture shown as you are purchasing a natural product.

Please note: In our selection of white frames, the inner box frame—the part that creates the depth of the shadow box—is currently only available in black, as white versions are not available at this time. The outer frame remains white.

This detail has not been an issue in over six years of offering this product, but we wanted to proactively inform you to ensure full transparency.

This applies only to deep frame items. Shadow boxes, if selected, come with a white inner frame.
