Description: This is an ORIGINAL INVITATION to attend the January 9, 1905 vote of the California members of The Electoral College for President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt and Vice President Alton B. Parker. Included in this lot are also (1) An original plain white envelope which fits into (2) A mailing envelope addressed to "C. W. Chapman Esq., Nevada City Cal" bearing a cancelled United States 2 cent stamp. C. W. Chapman was then Mayor of Nevada City. The invitation bears small portraits of Roosevelt and Parker. In the 1904 Presidental election, 476 electoral college were at stake, with the candidates needing 239 to win. TR won 336. The 10 members of the California electoral college are listed on the invitation, including Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. The mailing envelope measures 4" x 6 1/2" The plain envelope and folded invitation fit inside. The mailing envelope is Very Good (rubbed and somehat soiled from handling; pencelled numbers on verso, opened at bottom) and the envelope and invitation are Fine and all are in a clear 4mil mylar protective envelope.
