Here we have a JM Boswell 2026 shotshell straight billiard purchased by the collector Mr. GW. The pipe will come in its original box, and Boswell pipe sock, along with the extras they include of cleaners, tamp and the branded matches. This pipe is totally unused and new. It’s like opening it up for the first time.

Acrylic saddle bit in a crème coffee swirl, but not over done. Quite a nice size. We would classify the bowl and its capacity at a group 4. (Albeit heavier and longer) The shell used was an AA Winchester 12G. Nice honey blond style natural stain with no fills detected. This pipe is considered a STRAIGHT GRAIN rendition. The honey blond stain is reserved for the best of briar examples which is used by the Boswell carving house.

Boswell does not publish a fixed percentage for straight-grain production, but collectors and industry standards suggest that true, flawless straight-grain pipes account for less than 1% to 5% of all briar pipes made. Because J.M. Boswell works by hand with the natural grain of the wood, these pieces are only created when a rare "specimen" block of briar allows for it.”

This pipe is straight grained about 3/4 around the bowl. Which would classify it in the 5%.

JM has a good quantity of Grecian briar on hand. About 10 year stock, and when he makes a smooth pipe they almost always have no flaws. Something which factory pipes would command much more for.

Please note the picture of the draft hole drilling in the bowl. It’s dead center and low. Right in the bottom of the heel with a conical chamber. This is KEY to a good smoke, and to burn all of the tobacco. Not to mention, it’s really not common to have drilling like this. It will look like a billiard and smoke like a Dublin. Buying a pipe online can be such a risk. Rest assured that JM drills with the best of them.
