Interesting & decorative north-east of England cycling trophy shield/plaque relating to Thornaby Wheelers Cycling Club, a member of the Teesside Cycling Association.
The trophy is in the form of an oblong polished wooden base with a slanted top. A number of sterling silver & silver plated plaques & shields have been attached to the base with engravings dating between 1933 & 1959.
Six of the applied shields are hallmarked sterling silver with hallmarks dating between 1928 & 1938. Five of the shields bear the maker's mark of Fattorini & Sons and the other one is by William Adams Ltd.
Clearly this trophy shield was a perpetual trophy for the Thornaby Wheelers Cycling Club and would have been on permanent display in their clubhouse.
Weight: 724.1 gm. Height: 530 mm. Width: 120 mm. Depth: 20 mm. Hall Marks: Birmingham 1928 to 1938. Maker's Marks: Fattorini & Sons & William Adams Ltd.
Summary: As can be seen from the photos this is a nice decorative cycling trophy shield dating from the 1930s but enduring into the late 1950s. A nice piece of cycling history from the north-east of England. Good luck!
