ANTIQUE ARMAND MARSEILLE 390 GERMAN BISQUE HEAD DOLL 21", JOINTED COMPOSITION BODY. This doll belonged to my mother-in-law who was an avid antique doll collector. I got this doll from her collection when she passed away hoping to pass it down to my granddaughter. Unfortunately, my granddaughter does not care at all about dolls, and does not want it, so I am letting it go. The marking on the back of her neck is “390 A 5 M”. The A & M represent Armand Marseille & the number 390 is the mold number, and the 5 in the middle represents the doll’s size. I only know this from some limited research, so I could be incorrect. The doll has beautiful blue eyes that open & close although they do not close completely. Her clothing is antique and includes the dress, a petticoat, pantaloons, a bonnet tied under the chin, socks, and pink shoes. Her limbs are jointed, but there are several cracks on her upper legs which I have depicted in my photos. Her dress is removable but I did not attempt to take her underclothing off. She is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees. She has an open mouth with 4 upper teeth, and has painted black eye lashes around her eyes. I’m not sure what the hair is made of, but does seem to be the original hair. She is a beauty and would be a lovely find for any serious doll collector.
