The Jay Risk Service Station was a 1918 design by Standard Oil.

 It was prefabricated, then moved on the back of flat bed trucks. There were several hundred in Southern California and the western States.  Prior to this Standard Oil gasoline was sold at Livery Stables and pharmacies as they had done with kerosene. By making gasoline  convenient, it caused the internal combustion engine to be the driving power of choice. 

This is the only example in Los Angeles known to still exist.
